NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police are working to identify a man who successfully took money from a store's cash register and attempted to at a convenience store last week.

Police said the man first entered the Walgreens at 5600 Charlotte Pike on March 15 around 8:45 a.m. and acted as if he was going to purchase some candy before trying to take money from the cash register.

When the store clerk opened the cash register, the suspect lunged across the counter in an effort to obtain money from the drawer.

The store employee was struck in the face during a struggle. The man fled the scene empty-handed.

Minutes later, police said the same suspect entered a nearby World Market where for a second time he purchased candy.

When the cash register opened, the man leaned over the counter and took a handful of cash before fleeing.

The suspect is described as a black man with thinning hair who is believed to be in his mid-20s or 30s.

He is around five feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build.

Anyone with information on his identity is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
