A teenager was critically injured after he was accidentally shot by his friend Monday night in north Nashville.It happened around 7 p.m. at a home in the 2300 block of Woodridge Drive off West Trinity Lane.Police said William Blackwell, 18, was struck in the neck when his friend's gun discharged.According to investigators, Blackwell was holding the gun, but gave it back to his friend, 18-year-old Robert Goodner.Goodner mishandled the gun and it fired, hitting Blackwell.Goodner's mother, Samika, told News 2 her son and Blackwell were hanging out with friends in the his bedroom. She said she was in another room when she heard a loud noise coming from her son's room and instantly panicked. "I heard a pop in a back room and I ran back and he [Blackwell] was just lying on the bed. Robert was just screaming and crying," she recalled.CPR was administered at the scene and Blackwell was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.Samika said her son is having a difficult dealing with his childhood friend's life-threatening injury."I just hope he makes it through this. I hope he makes it through this," Goodner said.
Goodner's stepson, Eric Goodner, was arrested last April for the shooting death of a Pearl Cohn High School student at a bus stop.
No charges have been filed in Monday's shooting.
