NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

No charges are expected against a Clarksville man who says he opened fire on a teen who was attempting to rob him.

Metro police in the area responded to where they heard gunshots around 10:20 p.m. just south of downtown Nashville.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Garrett was found dead due to multiple gunshot wounds in a vacant lot near the intersection of Maury and Fain streets.

Less than 15 minutes later, 26-year-old John Washington Jr. called 911 from a nearby gas station to report that he shot a man who attempted to rob him.

Washington told police that he and his friend, also 26, were confronted by Garrett who appeared armed and demanded their belongings.

Washington stated he shot Garrett then ran to his car with his friend and fled the area to call 911.

Metro authorities reported Washington and his friend gave consistent statements.  The gun used in the incident was recovered from Washington's car.

Both men were released Sunday morning and returned to Clarksville.

The case is expected to be taken to the District Attorney's office for review.  The investigation is ongoing.
