GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. -

A Goodlettsville man was arrested Thursday for shooting at a Metro Codes enforcement officer.

Authorities responded to a home located at 2333 Union Hill Road after the officer claimed Leroy Myers Jr., 38, fired shots at her after a dispute.

The codes enforcement officer was reportedly investigating a claim that Myers was running an illegal auto mechanic business out of his home.

The two exchanged words after the officer stopped to take pictures.

Myers allegedly then fired two rounds from a shotgun toward the officer's vehicle as she was driving away.

The officer was unharmed, but shaken, and called police.

Investigators reported Myers admitted to firing shots, but said he was shooting into the woods at something that was bothering his chickens.

Myers' mother, Elsie Fay Myers, backs his claim, adding that the crows and hawks were getting too close to their chickens.

"[The officer] got away passed that mailbox and we heard chicken making a racquet back there, and he reached in there and got it up in the air to scare them off," the mother explained.

Myers was charged with aggravated assault and, combined with a previous assault conviction, held in lieu of $25,000 bond.

Police also reported that Myers has been cited numerous times for running the business on and off for years.

Elsie Myers said her son was not running a business out of the family home, but merely used it as a spot to repair his loved one's vehicles to make ends meet.
