Middle school teacher arrested in sexting case

Posted:

LEEDS, Ala. (AP) - A former Alabama middle school teacher is free on bond after being arrested on charges of sexting a 14-year-old boy.

Authorities say 31-year-old Ashley Casiday posted $100,000 bond after surrendering at the St. Clair County jail on Wednesday.

Casiday taught eighth-grade English at Leeds Middle School until she resigned on Feb. 19.

Now, authorities say she is charged with transmitting obscene material to a male student. The child's father alerted officials.

Court records aren't yet available to show whether Casiday has a lawyer.

At least 10 female teachers have been arrested statewide in similar cases since 2011.
