Fire officials believe an apartment in Cookeville was burglarized and then set on fire while the family was away on vacation.

According to the Herald-Citizen, the blaze started around 1:20 a.m. at an apartment unit on East 15th Street and Woodland Avenue.

Officials said several items had been left on top of the stove and then set on fire. The blaze caused $30,000 in damage to the kitchen and minor smoke damage to an adjoining unit.

Cookeville police reportedly found  the backdoor had been shattered. A friend of the residents said a 55 inch LCD TV and a Playstation gaming system were missing.

The family who lives in the apartment was away for spring break at the time of the fire.
