NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 17-year-old boy accused of shooting and killing a McGavock High School student at a Hermitage apartment complex reached a plea deal Monday.

As part of the deal, Kaemon Robinson has been committed to the custody of Department of Children's Services until he turns 19.

Robinson fatally shot his 15-year-old classmate, Kevin Barbee, at the Burning Tree Apartments on January 28.

Witnesses said Robinson was playing with a pistol inside a unit at the apartment complex when the gun discharged.

Robinson fled from the apartment immediately following the shooting, but turned himself into authorities less than 24 hours later.

He is charged with criminal homicide.
