As temperatures under sunny skies in the Clarksville area climbed near 60 degrees, thousands flocked to car washes in the midst of six-foot snow piles that may take a while to melt.
A Friday like this one could not come too quickly for the Clarksville area, which was hit Sunday with a snow and ice storm that closed schools all week long, while roads were treacherous for several days.
Any driving in those weather conditions left vehicles covered in the salt and brine that were put on highways and back roads throughout Montgomery County.
Getting rid of what was caked on just about every vehicle in the county means long lines at car washes city wide.
Noon at the Blue Iguana car wash on Wilma Rudolph Blvd brought a steady line of cars.
"This will hopefully make up for the days we were closed," said the owner.
"My wife told me not to come back until this car was clean," laughed one man just as he was heading into the car wash.
