Woman involved in crash while picking up stranded driver on I-40

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A woman and her children were involved in a crash while coming to the aid of a stranded driver on Interstate 40 early Thursday morning.

According to police, the incident began when a man in a red truck wrecked getting on Interstate 40 at Central Pike in Hermitage just before 5 a.m.

One of the truck's tires blew, leaving him stranded on the road.

The woman he called to pick him up was then hit by another truck as she drove around the curve onto the interstate.  Two small children were inside the vehicle with her.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured.  One child was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

The ramp was closed for approximately an hour as officers cleared the scene.
