Penguins ruin Pekke Rinne's return with 3-1 win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Pekka Rinne played for the first time in 52 games, but not even the Predators star goalie was enough to beat Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night.

Rinne made 16 saves, but the Predators lost 3-1 falling back to .500 for the season.

Matt Niskanen scored the Penguins first two goals of the game.  Chris Kunitz added the third in in the third to put it away.

Niskanen scored just seconds into the second period on the power play, but the Predators answered back only 12 seconds later when Patric Hornqvist netted his 12th goal of the season to tie it at 1.

Rinne was playing for the first time since October 22 when he went down with an E. coli infection in his surgically repaired hip.  He played two games in Milwaukee before making his comeback Tuesday night.

The Predators are back in action Thursday night against St. Louis.
