PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -

A Florida couple was arrested Friday after abandoning their three children in the woods.

Michael and Sarah Butcher, both 30, were initially arrested after illegally parking their truck in a private RV park, ABC News reported.

Authorities found crystal meth in the car glove compartment as well as a syringe and burnt spoon.

The couple was taken to jail and the police received a phone call.

Three hungry, dirty and cold children were found walking in the woods. The children had walked almost two miles before they were discovered.

The police were told the parents' names were Michael and Sarah.

The 10-year-old, 8-year-old and 6-year-old said their parents had driven them to the woods where they often went camping. The kids were playing in the woods when their parents drove away.

Authorities said the three children were taken to Florida's Department of Children and Families.

Officers found an additional baggie of crystal meth in Michael's pocket following the pair's arrest.

ABC News reported that Debbie Bowe, a spokesman for the Charlotte County Sheriff's office, would not say whether the couple had confessed to abandoning their three young kids.

The pair is being held without bond.
