KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Six children and two adults were injured in a school bus accident Tuesday afternoon in West Knox County.
Officials say Knox County Bus #114, filled with 45 students from Hardin Valley Academy, was involved in an accident Middlebrook Pike near Cedar Bluff Road just after 4 p.m.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office says a witness told them a Jeep Grand Cherokee rear ended an SUV on westbound Middlebrook Pike, then shot through the median and hit the driver's side of the bus.
"They were all screaming. I jumped out of my seat to makesure they were alright. Everybody was okay. Everybody was still screaming," said bus driver David Yager. "Ipulled the air brake out and everybody got off the bus. I had an emergency doorin the back. They jumped out. I was afraid the bus might catch on fire."
Four children were taken to Parkwest Medical Center while two others were taken to Children's Hospital. A Knox County Schools spokesperson says she believes the injuries are minor.
The driver of the Jeep and the SUV were each taken to Parkwest Medical Center.
Students who were not picked up on site by their parents have been transported home on a replacement bus.
Officers are continuing the investigation.
