28 homes evacuated after gas leak

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A gas leak led to evacuations in the Inglewood neighborhood of east Nashville early Monday morning.

The leak was reported around the intersection of Brush Hill Road and Ruskin Court just after 3:30 a.m.

A spokesman with Piedmont Gas said it was a simple case of a "regulator freezing up" and a relief stack performing its normal safety function, which is to relieve pressure.

Officials knocked on doors in order to inform residents of the situation and force them out of the area.

At least 28 were evacuated.

Police said the line came from underneath the Cumberland River and into a homeowner's yard in the 4300 block of Brush Hill.

The gas line was finally shut off around 4:30 a.m.

No injuries were immediately reported.
