Vanderbilt falls in final seconds to Kentucky


The Vanderbilt Commodores trailed Kentucky by just two points in the final seconds of Sunday's game but missed a shot at the buzzer to give the Wildcats the 65-63 win.

Vanderbilt trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half but battled back, scoring 18 of the last 22 points of the half to trail just 36-33.

The contest remained close as Vandy took the 51-49 lead with 10:10 left to go.  However, the Dores soon went on a 5:55 scoring drought allowing the Wildcats to score seven unanswered points to reclaim the 56-51 lead with 6:08 left to go.

With a 64-63 Kentucky lead, Bria Goss made just one of two free-throws with 12.9 seconds left, allowing the Commodores a chance to pull off the upset. However, Vanderbilt's Jasmine Jenkins missed a shot at the buzzer giving Kentucky the 65-63 win.

Christina Foggie led the Dores with 23 points while Jasmine Lister added 15 points and seven assists.

Kentucky earned a No. 4 seed for the upcoming conference tournament that begins Wednesday in Dulluth, Ga. Vanderbilt is seeded eighth and will play Georgia in a first-round game Thursday.
