NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man arrested on first degree murder charges in the death of a missing man is now facing a charge of abuse of a corpse.

Paul Davis II was arrested in September after the remains of Michael Parsley, 53, were found buried in a shallow grave in Wayne County.

An investigation revealed Parsley, who was reported missing in April 2009, was murdered in west Nashville shortly after his disappearance.

According to an affidavit, when Parsley's remains were discovered it was apparent his legs had been severed at the knees and a medical examiner found two stab wounds in the center of the his sternum in the shape of a cross.

It was also discovered there were cut marks on the bones of one of his shoulders, indicating one of his arms may have been severed as well.

Since Davis' arrest in the murder, further investigation led to multiple witnesses linking him to the intentional wounds found on Parsley's body.

Witnesses reported they observed Davis stab Parsley after he died and helped another suspect sever an arm.

All witnesses reported the abuse happened in the same where the murder occurred.

Davis, who remains in jail on the first degree murder charge, was given an additional charge of felony abuse of a corpse.

His bond was raised from $250,000 to $300,000.
