CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. -

A Cheatham County high school teen is facing charges after police say he raped a female classmate earlier this week.

The alleged incident involving the acquaintances occurred on Tuesday at Cheatham County Central High School and was reportedly captured on tape by a school surveillance camera.

The male suspect was taken into custody later that day.

Parents who spoke to News 2 were outraged by the crime.

"I think it's pretty sad that people can't go to high school without worrying about kids raping them," father William Knox said. "I think it is just a terrible situation."

On Thursday, school officials released a statement which read, in part, "Student safety is the primary goal for Cheatham County schools. Upon learning of any incident that puts our students at risk, the local school and central office immediately take action to investigate the alleged occurrence."

School officials said the investigation has been turned over to authorities and any discipline for the accused student will be handled through the school's disciplinary process.

Investigators would not say where the arrested student is at this time, but he was not booked into the county jail because he is a minor.

He will is no longer allowed on the school's property.
