NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Developers are moving forward on design plans for a two-acre site in Midtown.

Buckingham Companies is responsible for the property at Broadway and 21st Avenue South where it converges with Division Street, across from the Vanderbilt Medical Center and University campuses.

The Indiana-based company plans to construct a 17-story building where Wendy's, Ken's Sushi Japanese Restaurant and Benchmark once operated.

The initial design was changed from a 429,000 square foot building to an 800,000 square foot space.

A luxury hotel, upscale apartments, and street-level retail remain part of the plans, along with a structured parking garage.

Buckingham Cos. is considered to be the general contractor on the project.  Crain Construction and Littlejohn Engineering Associates are the local partners.

A groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for this summer.

The development is expected to be completed in phases, with final construction finished by 2016.
