The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers handed Vanderbilt its first loss of the season Tuesday night.
The Hilltoppers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, eventually hanging on to win it 3-2 over the Commodores.
Vanderbilt Pitcher Walker Buehler gave up one run on three hits in the second inning. A lead off walk in the third came around to score for WKU giving the Toppers the 2-0 lead. They would score again in the fifth on a RBI double from Wilcox.
Vanderbilt was hitless through the first four innings but eventually found a spark in the sixth. Dansby Swanson extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single up the middle.
Later, with runners on second and third, sophomore Zander Wiel took a shot off the left field wall for the two-run double.
The Commodores threatened in the bottom of the eight with two on and a runner in scoring position but Ro Coleman struck out to end the inning.
Vanderbilt produced a season-low three hits and matched a season-low two runs. The three runs allowed by the Dores was a season-high.
The Commodores host Evansville Wednesday at 4 p.m.
