Losses, doubt mount for Tennessee basketball

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

Close calls are killing Tennessee basketball this season and it could cost head coach Cuonzo Martin his job.

Martin and the Vols missed the NCAA Tournament his first two seasons in Knoxville, but this year with an experienced roster the Vols were considered a virtual lock when the season started.

It has not turned out that way.  The Vols have a pair of last second losses to Texas A&M and are dismal 0-5 in games decided by five points or less.

With the Vols tourney hopes fading the calls for Martin's job are on the rise and everyone is hearing them.  Martin says it does not do any good to dwell on it.

Guard Jordan McRae said, "I think right now it's best for all of us to stay off of Twitter and Instagram and things like that.  Just stay away from things like that, because at the end of the day we are the only people at practice and we have to just keep on working."

Guard Josh Richardson added, "We are just worried about what is going on in our gym, not what's going on in the media."

The Vols are 16-11, 7-7 in the SEC with just four games left in the regular season.

They may have to win all of them to advance to the first NCAA Tournament of the Martin era, if they don't that era may end.
