MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A motorcyclist was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County Monday night.

Witnesses said the motorcyclist, Robert Sullivan, 27, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the back of a Dodge Caravan around 8:45 p.m. near mile marker 79.

Sullivan and his motorcycle both caught fire upon impact, sliding 222 feet from the point of impact before coming to a rest.

Sullivan died at the scene.

The driver of the Caravan, 42-year-old Berma Ussery, pulled to the shoulder and waited for officials. She was injured, but the three children also inside the van, ages two, six, and nine, were not harmed.

Ussery's condition was not immediately released.
