Father's dying wish honored by Shelbyville teen

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. -

A Bedford County teen is honoring her late father's wish to sing at the Shelbyville Community Safety Day event.

Lauren Clayton's father, David, was a Shelbyville firefighter who lost his battle to cancer last year.

Before passing away, David told his friends he wanted his daughter to sing at Saturday's event.

In honor of her father, Lauren is set to open the ceremony by singing the National Anthem and performing with the Christian band called Burning Yesterday at the Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville.

Lauren's mother said the community's support is overwhelming.

"Lauren's dad was a good man, he was a hard worker, and dedicated to his children," she said. "What a better way to honor him than letting his daughter live her dream."

Burning Yesterday, Fireflight, Danya, and Awaken are set to perform a youth concert that evening.

The free event at 721 Whitthorne Street is open to the public.  It kicks off at 9 a.m. with performances beginning at 6 p.m.
