Commodores smother Flames 14-1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Tyler Beede probably wants one pitch back from his dominating performance Friday afternoon.

Facing the University of Illinois-Chicago, Beede gave up a first inning solo home run to give the Flames the early 1-0 lead.

That would be all he allowed, however, as the Commodores dominated the Flames 14-1.

Following the home run, Beede retired the next 15 consecutive UIC batters. The right-hander finished his night with 11 strikeouts to set a new career high.

The Vanderbilt offense was dominant as well. The Commodores took the lead in the second and continued to score in all but two of their eight at-bats. The Dores' 19 hits is a season best and matches last season's best total.

Six Commodores finished with multiple hits. Dansby Swanson, Bryan Reynolds and Chris Harvey each finished with a career-best three-hit game.

Vanderbilt and UIC play again Saturday at 2 p.m with Jared Miller on the mound for the Commodores.
