NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man was taken into police custody after fleeing from an officer multiple times and taking his police car early Thursday morning.

The incident began around 3:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of Herman Street near Fisk University when an officer tried to stop the suspect to investigate criminal activity.

The suspect fled from the officer, but was soon captured.  A struggle ensued, during which the officer saw a gun in the suspect's hand.

Once disarmed, the suspect struggled again and managed to escape.

The officer then caught the suspect another two times, but he managed to get away each time, ultimately running back to the starting point on Herman Street and taking the officer's patrol car.

Authorities flooded the area and found the police vehicle abandoned.  After canines failed to run a track on the suspect, officers found him hiding nearby.

He was taken into custody without further incident.

Police reported there was no damage to the patrol car and nothing was stolen.  The officer was not injured while struggling with the suspect.

The suspect's identity and charges have yet to be released.
