Governor's Square Mall to undergo major renovation

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A popular indoor mall in Clarksville is getting a multi-million dollar facelift.

Plans for a major renovation of Governor's Square Mall were announced Wednesday in the mall's center court.

A spokesperson for Cafaro, the mall's parent company, unveiled renderings for a construction project that will "transform the look and feel" of the one million square foot shopping center.

Inside, new ceilings, skylights, carpeting, and porcelain tile will be installed. Public restrooms will be updated. Improvement will be made to the heating and cooling system, as well as customer amenities like seating.

Outside, mall entrances, signage, and landscaping will be redesigned to a more contemporary style.

Governor's Square Mall is anchored by major retailers Dillard's, Belk, Sears, JCPenney, and Dick's Sporting Goods. Another 100 specialty shops and services fill the remaining space.

A food court was added to the mall in May 2010, but not much else has changed since the facility opened its doors in 1986.

When new construction begins in April, the bulk of the work will take place overnight when the mall is closed.  Crews will roll back barriers and clean up debris to ensure merchants continue business operations throughout the construction process.

The project is scheduled to be finished by the holiday shopping season, with construction completed in October and a grand reopening celebration slated for mid-November.

Governor's Square Mall is located at 2801 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard in Clarksville.
