Police investigate after shots fired on Austin Peay's campus

Police are investigating after shots were fired Monday night on the campus of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville.

Gunshots were fired on Drane Street near the McReynolds Building just after 9:30 p.m. Shell casings were found in the area.

An alert was sent to students and posted on the university's Web site warning them of the situation.

The alert stated the shots reportedly came from a dark-colored Nissan Altima, which fled toward College Street, and a white Chevrolet Malibu, which fled toward Marion Street.

It was not immediately known if the persons involved attended the school or are any way affiliated.

Campus police have more patrols in the area and are escorting students if they want.

Anyone with information or anyone who sees the suspect vehicles is urged to contact Austin Peay police at 931-221-7786.
