MILLERSVILLE, Tenn. -

The driver of an SUV that crashed into a creek on Sunday night survived thanks to the help of neighbors and emergency responders.

According to investigators, Donald Schoenheit lost control of his vehicle on Williamson Road in Millersville and landed in a nearby creek.

Neighbors told News 2 they heard a loud "boom" shortly before 9 p.m. and rushed outside to see what happened.

They found Schoenheit unconscious behind the wheel of his SUV, which had come to rest on its side in the creek.

Melinda Lunday, who lives nearby, called 911 to report the incident.

Neighbors said they tried to free the victim but were unsuccessful. They held Schoenheit's head up out of the water until emergency workers arrived on the scene.

"One of them had to get down in there and just hold the guy's head up out of the water because he was just totally out. His legs were twisted up under him," said neighbor Brandon Lunday.

Schoenheit was transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center. He is listed in good condition.

His family would like to express gratitude to those who helped save Schoenheit.
