NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A woman arrested in December for stealing from the Target store where she worked was arrested again last week, this time for stealing from her new place of employment, the Walmart store on Powell Avenue in Nashville.
According to affidavits, on February 7, Mary Turney took $2,000 from a money bag at the store and replaced it with counterfeit money.
She was arrested Friday after police learned she stole an additional $960 from the store.
Turney, 57, was charged with forgery and theft and booked into the Metro jail.
She has since been released on bond.
Turney was arrested in late December for theft after she allegedly stole nearly $4,000 from Target over a two-week period while working there as a cashier.
Dianna Gee, a spokesperson for Walmart, told News 2 all associates must pass a criminal background check as a condition of their employment. However, Turney applied for and was offered a job in mid-December, prior to her arrest.
Gee said the counterfeit money at the Nashville store was discovered soon after it was placed into the money bag and the bills never made it into the registers.
