NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Two dogs were rescued from a burning home Wednesday afternoon in east Nashville.

It happened in the 2500 block of Allenwood Drive, off Ellington Parkway just after 2 p.m.

The home's rear sustained major damage. No one was inside the residence when the fire broke out.

Homeowner, Cynthia Rucker, told News 2 she received a phone call at work about the house fire.   She's grateful no one was harmed, but is heartbroken the home she grew up in is unlivable.

"Unbelievable. We've been in this house for over 40-something years," she said.

A firefighter burned his hand and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

The fire remains under investigation.
