Ohio police: Man pepper sprays mail carrier, bites his leg

AKRON, Ohio -

An Ohio man is accused of squirting a mailman with pepper spray then biting him in the leg last Saturday.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports 25-year-old Robert Keifer was frustrated over a check that was still in the mail when he assaulted the 56-year-old postal worker.

Police stated they found Keifer fighting with the worker upon arrival around 3:30 a.m.  A small crowd had formed around the two men.

Keifer allegedly refused to stop fighting and attempted to fight an officer while being restrained.

Police eventually had to use pepper spray on Keifer to subdue him, reports said.

The postal worker then told officers Keifer became angry after he was told the check he was expecting was not in the mail.

Keifer then took the postal worker's pepper spray and attacked him, spraying him in the eyes.  As the two men began fighting, Keifer bit the mailman three times in the leg.

He was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault and resisting arrest and placed on $1,000 bond.

He is due in court February 21 for a pretrial hearing.
