NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man arrested Sunday on drug charges faces additional charges for allegedly kicking an officer during his arrest.

Fredrick Owens is charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer in addition to unlawful use and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an affidavit, Owens was parked along Lewis Street just south of downtown when police approached his car to speak to him.

When Owens opened his door, there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the affidavit stated.

As Owens got of his car he threw a marijuana blunt onto the floor of the vehicle.

Detectives tried to arrest Owens but he pulled away and climbed up the side of the vehicle. He also reportedly kicked a detective in the process.

Owens was eventually apprehended and booked into the Metro jail. He has since been released on bond.
