Crawl space inside apartment catches fire

An apartment complex in south Nashville caught fire early Friday morning.

Officials said the fire began in a crawl space of a downstairs unit around 3 a.m. at the Amalie Point Apartments near the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Nolensville Pike.

The fire crept up the wall to an upstairs apartment, but crews were able to stop it.

Five apartments needed ventilation due to smoke coming inside.

Crews also had to cut power to the affected part of the building.

The tenants who lived in the unit where the fire began are being assisted by Red Cross and will need to find another place to stay until repairs can be made.

The cause remains under investigation.
