ST. PAUL, Minn. -

Nashville Predators General Manager David Poile was rushed to a Minnesota hospital Thursday morning after he was hit in the head with an errant hockey puck.

It happened at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul during the team's pre-game skate prior to their game Thursday night against the Wild.

Poile was standing in a tunnel near the ice when he was hit.

According to reports, he fractured his orbital bone and also suffered a black eye and bloody nose.

Friday, the Predators said Poile has undergone two successful surgeries in the nose and eye areas and received stitches to repair a facial laceration.

The team said he is resting and recovering and will remain in the hospital for further observation.

His return to Nashville is yet to be determined and is pending doctors' evaluation and recommendation.

Poile is also the GM of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and was scheduled to leave for Russia this weekend.

He will not travel to Sochi as originally planned, but he does look forward to joining Team USA during the Olympics.

The Predators lost to the Wild in overtime Thursday night 3-2.
