NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Purina is reissuing a series of jerky treats after they voluntarily took them off the shelves a year ago.

The company voluntarily recalled their jerky products in January 2013 after pets continually fell ill or died after consuming jerky treats.

The illnesses were not connected to one brand and affected companies across the board, with many recalling their own products in lieu of an official recall from the Food and Drug Administration.

Most of the treats were produced in China, but investigators have yet to determine the exact source or cause.

Over the past year, Purina says they have worked hard to recreate their jerky treats with 100% real ingredients.

The Web site for their new jerky, Waggin' Train, now walks consumers through the creation process of their jerky and answers questions regarding the new release and re-issue, including where their ingredients come from.
