Motorcyclist killed in west Nashville crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A motorcyclist died after crashing in west Nashville early Friday morning, just down the road from Vanderbilt University.

A passerby spotted the victim in the roadway and contacted police.

Authorities arrived to the scene on Blakemore Avenue, not far from Natchez Trace, around 2:10 a.m. to find the motorcycle severely damaged.

Jarrod Scott Lycus, 23, who police say is originally from Florida, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole.

He was dead upon arrival.

A large patch of ice on the roadway may have been a contributing factor.  Water pipes burst overnight at a nearby home, spilling water into the roadway.

Lycus was employed at Fido, a coffee shop in Hillsboro Village.

Further details were not immediately known.
