Going Around: Flu

The flu is very much alive and well in the Tri-Cities. Dr. E.C. Goulding, medical director of Wellmont Urgent Care in Johnson City checks in, and gives some great advice:

"Flu season has definitely not run its course. I have seen more positive flu cases in our urgent care in the last week than I have seen in a long time. Classic symptoms are fever, chills and body aches accompanied by cough and cold-like symptoms.

The key for successful treatment is to visit an urgent care or primary care facility within 48 hours of the onset of flu symptoms. That way, the office can provide you with Tamiflu, and it can still be effective in treating this virus. Tamiflu shortens the duration of the flu.

The most effective way to prevent the flu is to obtain a vaccination. It is not too late to be vaccinated."
