Dramatic changes are coming to NASCAR this season.
The Chase for the Sprint Cup championship received a complete overhaul designed to reward the "most battle-tested" at the end of the Sprint Cup season.
Last year, 12 drivers made The Chase, the new format calls for 16 drivers to make chase and it places a premium on winning.
The Chase will still be 10 races long at the end of the season, but now NASCAR will eliminate four drivers from the field after every three races. That will leave four drivers for the final race of the season and it will be "winner takes all".
NASCAR Chairman Brian France said Thursday the new format has no math and no bonus points and is "simple as it gets."
