After 20 years of sitting next to his wife's grave everyday through rain or snow, a Massachusetts man is reunited with the love of his life.
People Magazine reported Rocky Abalsamo, 97, died Wednesday and will lie next to his wife of 55 years, Julia "Julita" Abalsamo, forever.
His wife died in 1993 due to complications from heart surgery.
Every morning after her death, Abalsamo would sit beside her grave until the cemetery closed. Before he left, he would sprinkle crumbs across the plot so animals would keep her company when he could not.
Abalsamo received national attention in 2000 when the Boston Globe reported on the husband's devotion.
"She is part of me, so here I am whole," Abalsamo told the Boston Globe. "Being here makes me feel better. Not good, but better. I do it for Julita, and for myself."
After the story was published, strangers began stopping by Julia's grave site to talk to Abalsamo and bring him blankets, clothes and decorate her grave, People Magazine reported.
He continued visiting Julia's grave regularly until he fell ill in July 2013.
Abalsamo always walked on the left side when the couple was together, so his family will bury him to the left of Julia's plot.
