NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Ice coated the area surrounding an east Nashville home after firefighters worked to extinguish flames in an early morning fire on Thursday.

Extra crews were called to the home in the 1300 block of Stainback Avenue due to the cold weather, which was a concern for firefighters.

Officials reported the fire broke out around 2 a.m. while three people, two adults and a child, were inside.

They managed to escape safely, however, a grandmother and her nephew were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.

As firefighters battled the flames, the home and immediately surrounding areas became coated with ice.

The home suffered severe damage and the vinyl siding of neighboring houses was melted.

The cause has yet to be determined.  The fire marshal was called to investigate.
