Online petition calls for U.S. to deport Justin Bieber

LOS ANGELES -

There's an online petition to get pop star Justin Bieber deported to his native Canada following two recent run-ins with police.

Bieber, 19, was arrested last week in Miami Beach on charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license.

Bieber and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff were arrested following what police described as an illegal street drag race between a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. Neither has been charged with drag racing.

Following his arrest, police say Bieber admitted to smoking marijuana, drinking and taking a prescription medication.

Earlier this month, authorities searched his California home in relation to the alleged vandalism of his neighbor's property.

Bieber is from Canada and not a U.S. citizen.

The petition, placed on the White House's "We The People" site, says Bieber should be deported and the U.S. Government should revoke his green card.

It had more than 70,000 signatures as of late Tuesday morning.

"We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked," the petition reads. "He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation's youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."

Bieber is scheduled to be arraigned for his Miami arrest on February 14.

In an arraignment, prosecutors formally file charges and a plea is entered, although a defendant's lawyer can enter the plea in writing.  Bieber might not be required to attend.
