A tractor trailer was badly damaged after it caught fire while traveling along Interstate 65 Sunday morning.
The fire was reported around 10 a.m. on I-65 North at exit 85 near Rosa L. Parks Boulevard.
The fire has since been put out.
The driver told News 2 he saw smoke coming from the floor boards and made an emergency stop. He doused the area where he saw smoke with a fire extinguisher. He then saw more smoke on the other side of the truck, but the extinguisher was empty before he could successfully quench the flames.
The driver added that the fire was small, but the heat still managed to melt a significant portion of the truck.
It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the fire.
The truck was hauling animal feed.
Northbound traffic was blocked for over an hour. The scene has since cleared.
