Greenbrier mayor to resign after pleading guilty to misuse of funds

GREENBRIER, Tenn. -

The mayor of Greenbrier will immediately resign from his position after he agreed to plead guilty to one count of misuse of funds during a court appearance Friday.

Billy Wilson is accused of stealing $60,000 from the Toys for Tots charity he founded. He has since admitted to using the money to pay personal bills and has settled with the state on one count of theft.

He will also have to pay $30,000, in addition to court costs and can not have anything to do with the fire of city office for one year.

Wilson will not face any jail time and has been mayor since 2004.
