MT. JULIET, Tenn. -

The deaths of a man and woman earlier this week in Mt. Juliet have been ruled murder-suicide.

Hubert Wilburn, 77, and his wife, 80-year-old Betty Wilburn, were found shot to death in their Weston Drive home around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Mt. Juliet police said Thursday Betty Wilburn died of a single gunshot wound and Hubert Wilburn died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A family member discovered the couple dead when he had not heard from them in recent days and went to the home off North Mt. Juliet Road to check on them.

"Our investigators worked very diligently to piece such a heart-breaking and sad incident together," Mt. Juliet Police Chief James Hambrick said in a release.  "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the Betty and Hubert Wilburn, their friends, and loved ones."

A motive was not released.
