BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -

When the U.S. men's hockey team hits the ice in Sochi, Russia for this year's winter Olympics they will be representing Tennessee by wearing socks made by Brentwood-based Swiftwick.

The company, founded by CEO Mark Cleveland six years ago, specializes in long-lasting, high-quality, athletic compression socks.

The company's hockey socks took two-and-a-half years to develop.

Cleveland told News 2, "This is a piece of art, I mean, every single part of the design of the sock. You've got positively charged materials here and then negatively charged materials here which actually repel sweat."

The socks are also cut-resistant.

"Every once in awhile, an accident will happen, [where] an exposed part of the calf [on a hockey player] can get cut," Cleveland explained.

The U.S. men's hockey team starts play in Russia at the Olympics on February 12 and Cleveland couldn't be happier to be a part of it.

"We're just competing as hard as we can, to be in Middle Tennessee and now being in Sochi, it doesn't get any better," he said.

Swiftwick provided socks for cyclists in the last summer Olympics.
