JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

In 2012 he was on the streets, now he has a chance to be on the cover of a magazine.

Two years ago at just ten weeks old, little Lazarus was found alone on the streets of Johnson City.

He had exposed bone on the roof of his mouth, he was flea infested, with no upper lip, or nose. Vets say the fact that he's alive is a miracle.

"He's a survivor, for whatever reason the doctors said that basically he's a miracle because he was able to survive," Owner Cynthia Chambers said.

When Chambers rescued him she fittingly named that miracle Lazarus.

Because of his cleft palate thousands of dollars worth of vet bills started piling up.

So Chambers decided to setup a Facebook page to try and raise money.

"Unexpectedly what ended up happening was Laz was such an inspiration to people and people were so willing to offer support that he's just really developed a community," Chambers said.

A face only a mother, and 12,000 other people could love.

"12,000 fans of Facebook- that's amazing. I  just never imagined that when I started the Facebook site looking for support that so many people would get involved and want to be a part of Laz's life too."

Chambers said she's contacted daily from people whose lives have been touched by Laz.

"We often hear from parents with kids with cleft palates and telling us that they show Laz's picture to them and it makes the child not feel so alone. We have adults thatsay ‘I've never really fit in to society and somehow Laz's community has mademe feel a part of something,'" Chambers said.

Lazarus also inspires people beyond the computer screen; he and chambers go to schools around the area to speak about the greatness of uniqueness.

"I want them to make connections with animals who may have unique characteristics as well as people who may seem different than them, and thinking about their own unique characteristics and thinking what's different about me, and what do I have to offer," Chambers said.

Lazarus is also taking donations for other pets in need and will be making appearances throughout the area so you can donate and meet Lazarus.

Laz's Pet Supply Challenge crew will be at the Johnson City, TN Petsmart this Saturday and Sunday. To find out more click here.

Lazarus is a finalist to be on the cover of "ModernCat Magazine," this is the final week of the contest to vote click here.
