TSA Pre-check program aims to speed security screening

Posted:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Travelers at Nashville International Airport now have the option to apply for expedited security screening through the Transportation Security Administration's Pre✓ program.

A special counter opened at BNA Thursday.

The Pre✓ program allows approved travelers to leave on their shoes, jacket and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids in their carry-on bag.

TSA is currently in the process of expanding to more than 300 application centers across the country.

The application fee is $85 for a five-year membership.

"This new application process will greatly increase the availability of TSA Pre✓benefits to a broader population of travelers nationwide," TSA Administrator John S. Pistole said in a release. "TSA Pre✓ is enabling us to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to transportation security, as we look for more opportunities to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way."

Once approved, travelers will receive a Known Traveler Number and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA Pre✓ lanes at security checkpoints at over 100 participating airports.

You must be a U.S. citizen to apply.  You can also do pre-enrollment online at TSA.gov.
