CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A longtime Clarksville deputy was laid to rest Wednesday after he was killed in a single-car accident Sunday night.

A full police funeral was held for Deputy David "Bubba" Johnson who died after his police cruiser ran off the road and crashed into a tree while he was on patrol.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, but a preliminary report cited "unknown reason" as to why the deputy's vehicle left the roadway.

Friends say Johnson, 52, was nice to everyone he met and had a great sense of humor.

Johnson was a 16-year veteran of the sheriff's office.

He worked for the Clarksville Police Department for 11 years prior and before that worked for the Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services.

Deputy Johnson leaves behind a wife, a daughter and a brother who also works for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in its processing division.
