FAIRVIEW, Tenn. -
Fairview Middle School was on lockdown Wednesday afternoon following a report of a man with a shotgun in the woods near the school.
Neighboring Fairview High and Fairview Elementary schools were also placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Fairview's chief of police told News 2 they reviewed surveillance video which corroborated the person's story about the man with the shotgun.
However, Williamson County School District spokesperson Carol Birdsong and Sharon Puckett, a spokesperson for the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, say the lockdown was initiated following an altercation in front of the middle school.
The lockdowns were lifted less than an hour after they began although Williamson County sheriff's deputies and Fairview police officers remain on the scene investigating.
Birdsong said buses were running about an hour late as a result of the lockdowns.
The school district said all afterschool activities at the middle school have been cancelled.
