Driver taken into custody after crashing into parked car

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A driver was taken into custody after he crashed into a parked car, seriously damaging the vehicle early Tuesday morning.

An officer reported Thomas Wegenka was travelling northbound on Rosa Parks Boulevard near Monroe Street just before 6 a.m. when the driver flew around him at a high rate of speed.

The driver then crashed into a legally parked Hummer, sending it all the way off the roadway and several feet into the grass next to the road.

Upon their arrival, police located open beer bottles inside Wegenka's vehicle, as well as drug paraphernalia. He admitted to drinking prior to the accident.

He was taken into police custody after performing poorly on a field sobriety test.

At the time of his arrest, Wegenka was driving on a suspended license.  

He is charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license, among other charges.

No injuries were reported.
