Woman, five-year-old girl killed in Giles County crash

A 33-year-old woman and a young child were killed in a single vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.

Tiffany Sumners was traveling southbound on Cresent View Drive around 2 p.m. when she ran off the right side of the roadway.

Authorities said Sumners overcorrected before travelling back across the roadway and striking a tree. The vehicle then caught on fire.

Five-year-old Taylor Green was pronounced dead at the scene, WKSR reported.

Sumners, 33, alongside a six-year-old passenger were transported to an area hospital before being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Sumners died at the hospital a short time later.

The relationship between Sumners and Green was not immediately known.

The accident remains under investigation.
