Driver crashes into convenience store, steals cigarettes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro Police are investigating after a suspect drove into a west Nashville business, stole cigarettes, and fled Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. at the Robertson Avenue Market on Robertson Avenue at Croley Drive.

Police told News 2 the suspect drove through the front doors of the business and stole cigarettes before fleeing the scene, and leaving the vehicle behind.

"It's crazy... if you come and ask any employees for a pack of cigarettes or ask me personally for a pack of cigarettes I will give it to him... he could have his cigarettes without any troubles," said store manager Falah Almutory.

Almutory, who lives just down the street from the popular convenience store, was the first to arrive on scene after hearing the commotion.  He told News 2 he is grateful the store was closed during the robbery.

Almutory's hope is that the public will recognize the daring robber, who was caught on the store's surveillance camera, so authorities can stop him in his tracks.

"I mean he should think more better," said Almutory.

The car is said to have Illinois plates and it not reported as stolen.

The investigation remains ongoing.

No further details were immediately released.
